Explore these frequently asked questions to help determine which option might be right for you.
Yes: If you have worn hearing aids in the past, then you may already be familiar with how much hearing loss you have. Requesting an appointment would be a good next step.
No: If you haven't had hearing aids before, meeting with a hearing care professional in UnitedHealthcare Hearing's network is a great first step. Knowing how much hearing loss you have is a good indicator of whether an over-the-counter device could be an effective solution for you or if getting prescription hearing aids is a better option.
There are many items that impact hearing aid costs, including the type and number of features and level of follow-up care and repairs. Understanding what you want your hearing aid to be able to do will help you determine which features and devices may be right for you.
Whether you choose to access in-person care with a provider in UnitedHealthcare Hearing's network or decide to buy an over-the-counter hearing aid, there are many options to fit your budget.
UnitedHealthcare Hearing offers Relate® prescription hearing aids that have a rich set of features and powerful technology – at a price that can help you save thousands on a pair of hearing aids.
Not very: Working with a licensed hearing care professional will provide you with hands-on support from a hearing expert in your area. At your appointment, you'll have the opportunity to talk about your hearing options, have your hearing checked, review the results, learn about available hearing aids and get a recommendation for a prescription hearing aid.
Very: If you own a smartphone and are comfortable downloading apps, over-the-counter (OTC) hearing aids could be a good option for you. OTC hearing aids can be purchased without an appointment or prescription and come with a companion app to finetune settings and access support. OTC hearing aids work best for individuals with self-diagnosed mild-to-moderate hearing loss, so if you have diagnosed hearing loss it will be best to continue using prescription hearing aids and working with your hearing care professional.
I'm somewhere in the middle: Through AARP® Hearing Solutions™ provided by UnitedHealthcare Hearing, you have access to a no-cost hearing exam and consultation.
